| The Research & Design Center for Power Engineering (RDCPE) was founded on July 17th, 2006 after the merger of the National Research and Development Institute of Electric Power Industry, the Research and Development Center for High Voltage Equipment Testing, the Institute for Design of Grids and Electric Power Facilities and the Siberian Research and Development Institute for Electric Power Industry with the goal of enhancing operational efficiency and improving management of research and development resources in the power grid sector. |
On October 18th, 2007 the company became a 100% subsidiary of the Federal Grid Company Unified Energy System (FGC UES) (see minutes of the board meeting #396 of October 18th, 2007)

Background
The National Research and Development Institute for Electric Power Industry
| 1944 | Central Research and Development Laboratory for Power Engineering is established at the Ministry of Power Stations of the USSR |
| 1958 | Central Research and Development Laboratory reorganized as the National Research and Development Institute for Power Engineering |
| 1987 | Moscow division of the National Research and Development Institute for Power Transmission merges with the National Research and Development Institute for Power Engineering |
| 2006 | The Institute becomes a subsidiary of Open Joint Stock Company Research and Development Center for Power Engineering |
The Institute specialized in ensuring reliability of power systems and pool systems, integrated research, reconstruction and modernization of mainline and distributive power grids, development of specifications and system requirements for the new kinds and groups of power equipment, automation of control systems for the unified energy system in Russia, systems and means of protection relays, telemechanics and communication as well as development of scientific and technical resources.
The Research and Development Center for High-Voltage Equipment Testing
| 1963 | R & D Center opens in Moscow suburb Beskudnikovo. |
| 1964 | R & D Center separates from the National Research and Development Center for Power Engineering and begins operating as the Research and Development Center for High-Voltage Equipment Testing |
| 2006 г. | Open Joint Stock Company Research and Development Center for High-Voltage Equipment Testing becomes a subsidiary of Research and Development Center for Power Engineering |
The Center conducted research and testing of power equipment of all voltage categories, testing of product prototypes prior to launch of commercial production, certification of power equipment, and research related to development and commissioning of testing circuits, units and metering equipment.
The Institute for Design of Grids and Electric Power Facilities
| 1951 | The National Institute for Design of Agriculture Grids (“Giproselectro”) founded |
| 1963 | The Institute reorganized as the National Design, Survey, Research and Development Institute (“Selenergoproekt”) |
| 1993 | Selenergoproekt renamed as ROSEP open joint stock company |
| 2006 | ROSEP becomes a subsidiary of the Research & Development Center for Power Engineering |
ROSEP’s core activities include development of scientific and technical policy for power grid sector, design of power plants and distribution grids.
The Siberian Research and Development Institute for Electric Power Industry
| 1943 | The Institute for Energy Transportation is founded under the auspices of Academy of Sciences of the USSR |
| 1963 | The Institute is renamed as the Siberian Research and Development Institute for Electric Power Industry |
| 2006 | The Institute becomes a subsidiary of the Research & Development Center for Power Engineering |
The Institute’s key goals include the enhancement of power transmission capacity, transmission of electric power to long and extra-long distance destinations, studies of operation modes and reliability of electric power systems in Siberia and Russian Far East, development of specialized software for control of electric power facilities, engineering of regional and distribution power grid lines, design of insulation and polymer materials for electric power facilities, as well as testing and physical inspections.
| 2009 | Open joint stock companies the National Research and Development Institute of Electric Power Industry, the Research and Development Center for High-Voltage Equipment Testing, the Institute for Design of Grids and Electric Power Facilities and the Siberian Research and Development Institute for Electric Power Industry merge into a new entity named the Research and Development Center for Power Engineering (RDCPE), and its subsidiaries are restructured for better alignment with strategic business lines. |
